FlowState + Steel Mace Vinyasa
August 21-25, 2019 / Orcas Island, WA
Location: Doe Bay Retreat Center // Orcas Island
Join us for 4 Days of learning, growing and practice. Doe Bay Resort is located in the San Juan Islands, and is a place where you can turn off your cell phones and really get into island life. The resort has three soaking tubs overlooking the ocean, plus a sauna (where we restore on breaks and after class). It also is situated right on the water with campgrounds, yurts, cabins and more. There is a charming seed to table restaurant on site, yoga studio overlooking the water and beautiful scenery all around. We have been holding strength & yoga retreat style seminars here for the past 6 years, and are excited to come back with YOU! Spots do fill up, so make sure to book your lodging separately (contact www.doebay.com for reservations or stay in local town called East Sound).

“Setting aside the near paradise environment at Doe Bay and being completely immersed in a community of likeminded and supportive peers, the iron sharpening iron aspect of the coaching focus is worth the price of admission. There is a delightful balance of the demanding educational sessions and a calm soothing retreat aspects inherent to being at an island spa in the pacific northwest at the peak of Summer. I think the only down side is the feeling when you have to leave.” - Travis Janeway
“I love taking courses from Summer Huntington. I have been fortunate enough to experience two of the six retreats I’ve taken with her at Doe Bay resort. They are my favorite by far.
Getting to spend four days immersed in nature while learning new skills that grow and challenge my brain and my body is a perfect balance! The unique setting lends to a more intimate and bonding experience with the attendees Learning and flowing together as a cohesive group makes the experience that much better! I love the retreat style workshops and I will be back every year. No matter what the topic of the seminar is I know it will be a valuable learning and growing experience. It counts as education and vacation for me at the same time.” -Charleen Hess

“The Doe Bay seminar is fantastic on so many levels. The gorgeous island setting is a fabulous escape, enveloped in nature with beautiful views (woke up in my hammock to sea otters splashing and a deer nibbling leaves!). The retreat style format also allows for total immersion in the content and character of the course. Being away from everyday life allowed me to totally hone in on learning and improving the physical craft, ushered by Summer’s expert coaching and unique perspective on movement. I left feeling stronger, smarter and more connected to my environment and community.” - Dana Llewyn
FAQ’s - Please READ!
How should I prepare for this seminar? -
There are many ways to prepare for a seminar, ideally you would have studied Steel Mace Vinyasa -lvl 1 Foundations and or Steel Mace Vinyasa - lvl 2 Fluidity. However, this is not required to be successful. Other ways of preparing are taking Steel Mace Classes, studying & practicing Steel Mace Flow. The more experience you have the better, but this seminar does serve as an immersion for people with limited experience with the mace. Summer encourages you to lean in to the discomfort that you may not be ready, and tap into Flow State during this retreat/seminar. Your brain and body will thank you.
How do I get to Orcas Island from out of state?
Reserve a Ferry either from Seattle to Orcas Island or Annacortes to Orcas Island, book your ferry reservation 2-3 weeks in advance to ensure space. Once on Orcas Island, use GPS to locate Doe Bay Resort (it is about 25 miles or so from the ferry, and you may lose service). Stop in East Sound at the Co-Op or Market for groceries if needed.
Do I need to book my lodging separately?
Yes, the registration fees for this retreat covers your tuition, supplies and use of the Steel Mace Vinyasa brand after you complete the seminar. In the past 6 years, we have had our students book their own lodging separately as some people like to rough it and camp at Doe Bay Resort, while others like to stay in cabins at Doe Bay, and others like to stay in hotels or other places on Orcas Island. There is a beautiful resort called Rosario nearby as well if you’d like to stay there too (Doe Bay Resort often fills up, so make sure you have a vehicle and alternative lodging plans if that happens). All activities for the retreat will be from 8am-8pm, so plan accordingly.
Can this seminar count as Continued Education Credit (CEC’s)?
Yes, you can apply for CEC credit from your certification accreditation organization, simply apply and if you need a reference letter, we can happily provide that. You can also apply for CEC credit for Yoga Alliance, same process.
Can beginners come to this seminar and be successful?
Absolutely! Steel Mace Vinyasa is a non-dogmatic approach to training dynamic movement, loaded asana and transitions and will absolutely strengthen your current practice. We encourage students of Club Yoga, clients at Flow Shala, Steel Mace students and all open minded movement practitioners to attend this 5 day intensive to hone new skills, deepen their practice and have a break from the city life to restore.
